Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man #53

Tobin exploits Emma Frost's natural proclivity for mischief. The Mutant telepath reads Peter's mind and experiments with him, though not in a malicious way. I don't know if the Mutant Chat is actually an X-Men character, but she is a rather winning personality, regardless of her origins. By giving Emma a friend, Tobin softens her, gives her someone to talk to and constructs superb scenes that aren't spider-centric, thereby giving the book a wider scope. Read Full Review

Tobin does a great job making his first issue on this title approachable and explanatory. Anyone who has never seen Spider-Man in comics, television or movies, after crawling out of their cave, could pick this issue up and gain an understanding of the character. With Tobin on board, I look forward to "Marvel Adventures Spider-Man" continuing to be a popular title in the Zawisza household. I'm just going to have to make sure I read the new issues first before handing them off to my kids. Read Full Review

Ultimate Goblin

Actually, I thought it would be a bad issue. Because this cover is weird. And "A NEW ERA BEGINS" often means that something worse is coming. But! That was surprisingly good! I felt like I was reading Ultimate Spider-Man. Really good. And Peter finally is about to get a girlfriend. Just about time, because he's 16 now and this series really needed some changes. So, I really wanted to drop it since issue 40 or so, but now I'm glad that I didn't. Excited to read more of it! And the artist is finally cool. His art is sometimes really similar to Stuart Immonen's art, but that's an advantage.
