God, I love Si Spurrier. And with Jugger now having them call him CAIN and a fantasy/dream/ethereal plane. The Beach has become essentially the mutant equivalent of the dream verse for the MCU. Legion makes quite the Sandman. LEGION OF X is a doozy of a title that's oozing with color, character, emotion, and psychedelic fever.

I don't honestly understand why people are saying this comic is hard to follow. There's really not THAT much going on, and we even had two of the plot threads connect in this issue. I personally loved it. The art is absolutely stunning, and while it is dense, Spurrier's script is great. This is a really good story in which I'm heavily invested.

Some comics are just *messy*. That's not a value judgment in itself. Sometimes the mess takes the form of an unappealing stew; other times, it's the proverbial candy store: Such a wealth of treats, you don't know where to start. I love this comic, but it's definitely a candy store. Fascinating ideas explode every which way, so many that they risk overshadowing the thread of the story. It's still in there, though, moving briskly along. Focused writing preserves the flow. The art's worth praising, too; the artist throws down some gorgeous surreal craziness without letting any panels slide into confusion.

I think there a lot of great ideas here and I know Spurrier is capable of something more, as seen with the Way of X series I've mentioned in my reviews of the previous two issues, but this isn't quite reaching those same heights with me. I really liked the stuff with Juggernaut and Legion here, but I was left a bit underwhelmed by the stuff with Nightcrawler, Blindfold, and Zsen. I really hope that the team is able to pull things together here and make this a little more focused. With how the issue ended, I think we may be on our way to getting there.

I feel like Legion of X would make 3 really good comics, but as one comic it just has too many balls in the air. It's exhausting and messy and the occasional quality Ian McKellen joke just isn't payoff enough to justify to sprawl

It's all nonsensical.The art is just random colors and shapes. This series has two of my favorite characters, Nightcrawler and Juggernaut, but the story is a slog to get through.
