Kang The Conqueror #3 gives you exactly what it says on the cover - Kang vs. Dr. Doom. The story doesn't waste any time and gets young Kang and the reader right into the meat of the story with great action, fun character interactions, solid development for young Kang, and great art. The comic brings in Dr. Doom in a way that makes sense for the character and this series, and his overall characterization is written pretty well. The art by Carlos Magno and colors by Espen Grundetjern continue to excel in the comic in making the action, locations, and characters all look superb. Read Full Review

In Kang the Conqueror, as a possible necessity of weaving so many timelines and stories together, the logic of time travel is hand-wavey and refuses to acknowledge any clear rules. As a result the ironic twists that arrive in Kang the Conqueror only read as a further step in a preordained path rather than anything consequential based on this young Kang's choices thus far. "Time means nothing to Kang." "...and Kang means nothing to DOOM." Wow. This mini is so well written it's crazy. Kelly and Lanzing do such a phenomenal job with this character. It's difficult to write from a villain's perspective and make you both cheer for and against him, but they've managed to write Kang as an arrogant, brash, self-righteous prick who you somehow still want to succeed, because he's also really friggin cool. I loved this issue. The bit at the beginning with Apocalypse was really great. I loved the confrontation with Doom (who was also brilliantly written here), and the art continues to be absolutely incredible. The writing, as mentioned, is superb. Comics that are this wordy have to be REALLY well written and REALLY we more

I feel like if you take a backseat some stuff here doesn't really make sense, but if I take into account the character work and Magno's gorgeous art (he can DRAW the Avengers, him and Cafu deserve a chance on an in-continuity Avengers book) this is still an enjoyable issue.

Not as good as the first two issues, but still solid. I hope the miniseries continues to impress from here.

Young Kang defeats Old Kang (and guest star Dr. Doom), but when he tries to start changing his past (Future? Dang time travel), the story of Kang begins folding in on him paradoxically. The verbal and visual storytelling remains rock-solid (albeit not spectacular), and this installment is thoroughly satisfying on its own. The big-picture plot is looking even more impressive; can these creators really tie up Kang's hopelessly messy continuity into a rational knot? I'm eager to find out.
