Black Nerd Problems - Jordan Calhoun
Jun 09, 2017As for Maria Hill and S.H.I.E.L.D., well, we will see where this goes. But for now " as for most of the past many issues " we keep reading for the character more than the plot. Her hero's journey is a unique kind, and it doesn't come from her defeating bad guys or saving lives, but learning to live a healthy life, nondestructive, with some semblance of stability. Jun 13, 2017Despite having accomplished the later, Jessica sill has a case to solve and a client the entire Marvel Universe is looking for. While I expect the comic to get more mired into Marvel's big event, I'm hoping (as with this issue) that it can continue to skirt the crossover and keep Jessica on her own path as much as possible. Jun 12, 2017In short, the issue feels like it's really trying too hard, straining against the constraints of the main Marvel line, even with the cover warning that it's not for general audiences, and a little too much unrestrained Bendis. Still, Jessica Jones #9 does provide a long-awaited reunion between Jessica and her family, a quick cameo by a very angry and very impressive Matt Murdock and some interesting plot iterations. This is the book I've been searching for since the Punisher MAX run ended. Bendis delivers! He takes you inside Jessicas' mind, I honestly felt,her pain and joys through his writing. Gaydos' artwork is unique, I get an Indie comic feel from it and his work has grown on me with each issue. The covers dine by David Mack are beautiful! Maybe the best cover artist since Tim Bradstreet. I anxiously await the next issue as Bendis takes the reader on the journey of Jessica's life. Amazing book. I hope Marvel sticks with this one. This is THE title for adult comic fans!

"Jessica Jones" can be frustrating, and yeah, not a lot of plot happens, but this character issue truly delivers. It's a lot of fun and shows us what's really going on in the mind of these characters. This is the good that comes with the bad of Bendis. We feel the great chemistry between Luke and Jessica for the first time in a long time, and Gaydos kills it. With this, and his work on "The Black Hood" last year (?), he is really on top of his game.

Jessica finally patches up her marriage after snarking her way into prison a second time. This month the progression of the Maria Hill plot takes a backseat to Jess's personal life, and that's entirely OK. Some high-quality Bendis conversations make this issue a cut above the norm; they're counterbalanced by some underwhelming art from Michael Gaydos. Some of his drawings are terrific, but there's a lot of copy/paste going on and his filtered photo backgrounds grow tiresome.

Sharon felt as shallow and poorly written as Maria did, but thankfully Sharon has a much smaller role than Maria. I find myself highly uninterested in the plot itself, but Bendis' narration and dialogue is fabulous and paired with Gaydos' art, Jessica Jones 9 is a great read
