While there's elements of the issue that don't work as well as others, IRON MAN #16 is still filled with some great action and provides an intriguing cliffhanger that compels us to pick up the next issue when it hits. But most importantly, it's Gillen's character work that continues to work wonders in this book, and coupled with the art of Pagulayan, there's a lot to like here. Read Full Review

Overall, The Secret Origins of Tony Stark is a great story. Had potential, was a fun adventure, and showed us a side of Tony which hasn't been seen in a long while. Read Full Review

The good news is that penciler Carlo Pagulayan and inker Scott Hanna continue to make a great team. Hanna's sleek inks offer a clean, no-nonsense quality to the figures that isn't always apparent in Pagulayan's work. It's an aesthetic that offers a smooth transition from Dale Eaglesham's work earlier in the series and brings life to the otherwise quiet pages in the second half of the issue. Read Full Review

In any case, Gillen and Pagulayan manage to sell both the happiness and turmoil of returning home to find that things aren't necessarily how you left them -- and perhaps more fundamentally, that you're not the same person who left. Given the deliberately self-contained nature of the opening two arcs, it's particularly promising that Gillen appears to be re-establishing a supporting cast for the title. It's not the finest issue of the series so far, but it does its job and makes you excited to read what comes next. Any comic that does that has to be worth reading. Read Full Review

This was a good continuation of the Secret Origin of Tony Stark story, but it was slightly slow, focusing too much on setting up the finale. It did however have some very intense and suspenseful moments, but unfortunately they were slightly overshadowed by the uneven pace of the issue. I would however recommend this to anyone who's been following the story so far, but otherwise it may be best to wait for the trade to come out. Read Full Review
