Giant-Size Little Marvel AVX #1

Giant-Size Little Marvel: AvX #1 easily lived up to my expectations and delivered something unique in the face of Secret Wars. I absolutely loved the world of Marville that Skottie Young has created. The animated look of the world and characters that inhabited it makes you want to not just watch these adventures but also visit Marville. And in a comic book landscape that is filled with creators looking to tell serious tales it is great to find a comic that revels in how much fun the medium can be. If you haven't checked out Giant-Size Little Marvel: AvX #1 I highly recommend you fix that by buying a copy yourself. Read Full Review

Now for the main reason I picked up this comic. Skottie Young's art. I appreciate that Young included not only newer characters (like Spider-Gwen) but also newer incarnations of older characters (like Storm and her badass mohawk). His art always makes me smile. From the gap in Cap's teeth to the plastic plunger on the end of Hawkeye's arrows, Young gets the details JUST right that you want to see more characters in this universe. Read Full Review

Marvel took a big risk in disrupting almost their entire line with Secret Wars and its multitude of tie-ins. But I'm glad they still have a sense of humor and can put out a comic like Skottie Young's Giant-Size Little Marvel: AvX. This is the perfect counterpoint to the uber serious Secret Wars. There isn't much to say here except that if you like fun and comedy, you should read *breaths in* "Giant-Size Little Marvel: AvX#1". It's what you expected out of a Skottie Young book and that's all I could've asked for. Read Full Review

Definitely pick up this first issue; either for the kids or not, it's very enjoyable. Of course it's just one more fantastic book that Marvel is putting out right now, but it's absolutely one to add to the list, for a bit of a light read with a few laughs. Of course, that's not to say he slouches in the art department. Not only is his expressively cartoony style as enjoyable as ever, but he also utilizes physical comedy quite well. These moments, such as Rogue always being on her cell phone (even in battle) or Daredevil's hilarious directional challenges, are great, Young's youthful spirit adding giant size fun to this giant size read. "Giant Size: Little Marvel: AvX" #1 is far from essential reading, but it's definitely fun. Quoting one of Young's verses early in the issue, "it's quirky, it's silly, a bit insane," and it's all the better because of it. Completely adorable, but did not blow me away. I can see them having a lot of fun in the future though. Reoccurring jokes were not good- my only complaint. But the cuteness got me. Will be adding to my pull list and looking forward to the next issue. Visually vibrant and expressive.
