Falcon #8 brings this vampiric adventure to a close, as well as Mephisto's response to what was really a big hit to his ego. This series continues to stand out for the ability to think outside the box in dangers a hero like Falcon can face, strike a balance between who the characters are in costume and outside of it, while also addressing the importance of having a stable supporting cast. Falcon #8 finishes off the series with another installment that tries to inject a small amount of social commentary to an occult horror story. The occult horror is ill-suited for Sam Wilson, and the social commentary frustrates with its lack of support and substance. It tantalizes without satisfying. I truly loved this book in its first few issues, and Im sad to see it, Sam, Rayshaun, and Misty go especially considering that I cant quite recommend this rushed and incongruous final installment. Sam saves the day with plenty of help from his friends. His romance with Misty is rekindled, Shaun comes through OK, and Blade is the big loser. He doesn't get the girl, he doesn't help out much, and his arch-nemesis gets killed in front of him by a bird. Poor Blade! This issue had nice visuals and some excellent moments, but the plot didn't make nearly enough sense. And some of the moments were a lot cheesier than they should have been. "The only place I wanna see feathers is on a plate." Really, Blade? You eat your chicken unplucked, do ya?

By what I see this is the last issue in this series? It started red hot and the first two issues were awesome and after that it kind of floundered a bit. There is nothing wrong here per se, but it is just very generic and uninspiring. The art remained a solid part of the series, but that wasn't enough to elevate this Falcon series to the next level.
