    Comic Watch - Jamie Remolde

This is a great story for both the experienced and inexperienced reader. One does not need to know the minute details of the myths to enjoy and the story is not bogged down with unnecessary exposition. Read Full Review

This is still a super hero comic at its core, but it felt just a little like a character exploration as well, and I would love to see more of this in Marvel Comics going forward. Read Full Review

Moustafa delivers some fun, impressive visuals throughout the issue. The art style is perfect for a classic style of comic storytelling and delivers on the tone and action beautifully. Read Full Review

    The Comicbook Dispatch - StoryBabbler

Doctor Strange: Nexus of Nightmares #1 is a solid standalone story that can be read mostly out of continuity. Ralph Macchio provides a Doctor Strange story with an old-school feel to it given life by Ibrahim Moustafa's art and Neeraj Menon's colors. It's not as epic as the cover would suggest and retreads familiar territory for Doctor Strange, but it's a fine story for new fans of the Sorcerer Supreme. Read Full Review

But Why Tho? - William Tucker

    Apr 18, 2022

Nexus of Nightmares #1 is out of place. The plot and dialogue are classic in their tone and structure, which can be enjoyable. The magic battles are visually fascinating, and the art team excelled in creating a Doctor Strange book that looks different. But the slow beginning and the lack of context around current comics prevent me from really developing an interest in the book. Read Full Review

    ComicBook.com - Spencer Perry

It's not poorly written, but Macchios' style of overly wordy panels is grating, and in fact would suit that purpose well, but it's not something that longtime readers are going to find much interest in. Read Full Review

    AIPT - David Brooke

Doctor Strange: Nexus of Nightmares is an okay adventure that looks good even though the art must contend with a lot of dialogue. The one-shot has an old-school feel thanks to the scripting that should please older readers with a full origin for newbies as well. Read Full Review

Definitely has a old school '80's feel to it. I like the amount of dialogue there is and the art is fantastic unfortunately I did find the story to only be pretty good. It's a nice throwback story

It's been six months, so it's time for another painfully-antiquated Ralph Macchio one-shot starring the MCU's hero du jour. I think of these things as an exotic pension scheme for Mr. Macchio rather than as readable comics. This one's a particularly weak example: Besides its pretentious and dated language, it's tackling subjects far outside the creators' wheelhouses. The artist isn't much better at drawing magic than the author is at writing psychological torment.

I'm done with these horrible movie cash-in one-shots as long as Ralph Macchio continues to write them.
