The A book full of great action, art and characterization… It is very surprising to see Steve Rogers look this cool and bad-ass with a beard. I guess most male characters looks intimidating with facial hair. I cannot wait for the next issue. Read Full Review

Captain America is a solid adventure book. Remender and Romita Jr. have stripped away all the calling cards of the previous run and left us with a science fiction story that feels like it was ripped straight out of the 70s. Though it's strange that Marvel's direction for the new Captain America series is to place him in a world without America, there is something about Captain America's ideals and personality that become more exposed through his hard work and diligence. This isn't the Captain America series you were expecting. Rick Remender has taken the reigns and is taking us on a completely tripped out and wacky adventure. We've been seeing so many stories of Cap as a soldier working for the government. While the Brubaker stories full of thrills and espionage were great, Remender is clearly doing his own thing. He's showing it's not necessary to try to replicate what happened before and is delivering stories on his own terms. Other dimensions are always an opportunity to get pretty wild. So far it’s all been pretty subtle, but this particular team is showing great potential and that’s the great intricacy of it all, still feeling real and relatable while other worldly. Read Full Review

I would highly suggest picking this book up even if you are not a Cap fan. It is NOT a traditional Cap book, and I think many people will be surprised by just how good it actually is. Plus Cap has a beard and long hair, which in my books makes this series pretty awesome. Read Full Review

When you add a terrific (and potentially gruesome) cliffhanger ending to the whole thing, well, this turns into a darn good comic. It's interesting that the Marvel NOW! initiative is so intent on just letting the creators tell the stories they want to tell, rather than worrying about how all of their books fit together. It would be impossible to reconcile the timeline of this book with, for example, Hickman's Avengers. But that's why this is so good! It's difficult to say how Rick Remender's run with Captain America will pan out. With most other 'Marvel NOW!' titles, I've found myself either raucously sold or defiantly opposed. Remender's Captain America is different from most other titles Marvel is currently offering: it sits outside the general Marvel turn of events due to it's setting in Dimension Z, Captain America is completely out of his element (something we haven't seen in ages), yet the fate of a whole universe hangs in the balance. "Captain America" #2 is a brave departure into new pulpy waters. This doesn't feel like a "Captain America" book anymore. This will brighten the days of some fans but others could be driven away. Readers must choose for themselves if they are willing to follow this character into this bold new genre. Cap is pushed to do new things but ultimately it is his character that still shines through in his decisions and actions. Remender had a lot of his plate by following Brubaker’s acclaimed Captain America run, and the only way to follow up a grand epic like that is do something completely different.
