A light read that made me think for a bit. Gods, beliefs, and cult battles are all super fun. This could be a captivating story if it continued. Bryan Edward Hill and Alberto Foche Duarte did an excellent job with this one-shot book. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff

Unconquered worked well enough that it wouldnt be all that difficult to imagine a series of one-shots being popular. Marvel has been quite successful over the years in exploring its own Manhattan. There are so many other places in the world that could be every bit as interesting...supporting multiple series and their own end of the Marvel Universe. Wakanda and the surrounding area would be a perfect stage for further exploration of the world. Hill and Duarte render an enjoyable action drama far from New York in a location that has had some really entertaining stories over the years, going back to McGregor and Bucklers Jungle Action comics of the 1970s and beyond. The release of this special one-shot is presumably meant to capitalize on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but even as a standalone story there really isn't much meat on its bone. Read Full Review

But Why Tho? - Collier "CJ" Jennings

Black Panther: Unconquered #1is a tale that tests the King of Wakanda's faith, while also serving as a great introduction to his world. If you're looking for a good starting point to get into the Black Panther comics after Wakanda Forever, this is a great place to start. And if you're a new comic fan, it's also a great place to start! Read Full Review

When a one-shot fires off sequel hooks, judging its quality comes down to one question: Do I want to read more of this? Here, the answer is a full-throated "yes!" The script is a serviceable storytelling tool, but it embellishes the basic action with interesting theme-work and then ties that into some promising character insights. The art does impressive storytelling in its own right, proving more than capable of taking over from the words. It has a clean polish to it, and if it's not super-detailed, it's also notably dynamic in the action scenes. Bottom line: I'm definitely ready for more -- with the caveat that this author needs (and deserves!) the continued support of an artist that can keep up with his cinematic storytelling more
