The Weekly Crisis - Kirk Warren

    Jul 31, 2008

This issue combined the epic scope of an alien invasion, the dire straits of a people battling back against insurmountable odds and the alien shape shifting, "Who do you trust?", nature of the Skrulls into one story that has managed to upstage the entirety of Bendis' event. Take a bow Aaron and Palo, you deserve it. Read Full Review

Jason Aaron's got another winner on his hands. His first fill-in issue of Black Panther is a fantastic traditional superhero story that demonstrates why the character is cool, a concept that I've failed to see conveyed from the title before. This one has easily leapt to the top half of the SI tie-ins. Read Full Review

Didn't matter though. This book kicked so much ass my fingers bruised reading it. And my eyes blackened with each turn of the page. This is the real deal, and, once again, like so many of these Secret Invasion tie-ins, SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE MAIN SERIES IT'S EMBARRASSING. Read Full Review

That said, some may find this issue annoying or burdened by the seeming equivalent of "Crisis on Infinite Earths" Red Skies, as it almost certainly interrupted the "normal" flow of "Black Panther", given the fill-in creative team. Personally, I find this to be an enjoyable adventure addressing one of the elements that makes Marvel unique ""- how would a sovereign nation as advanced as Wakanda handle an alien invasion? Certainly many a comic shop debate has been inspired by such ponderings. Hopefully this issue can begin to answer one or two of those debates. After this arc is complete, Marvel's canvas will be deeper for it. Read Full Review

Issues 39-41 are my favorite Secret Invasion tie-ins. I recently read the entire event (thanks, Marvel Universe) and this was the one title that made me skip the correct reading order. I just had to know how this was going to end. Making the fight between Skrulls and Wakanda a technological war was extremely entertainment, and seeing the "human" side of Skrulls was very refreshing. Last but not least: Jefte Palo, what a perfect choice for this.

It wasn't enough for me to read just War Machine's Secret Invasion tie-in. I remember glancing through this one and it's cool indeed.

A bit generic, but there were good lines and the art and colors are great.
