This book has reinvigorated my interest in the whole AvX summer blockbuster event because this title seems to make sure these characters in the Marvel universe take an honest look at themselves. Not everyone was good or right on The Avengers and this title looks to explore that. With four more issues to go, of course, "AvX: Consequences" could easily zoom off in a different direction. With this strong first issue, though, it feels like a project that's on track for a strong finish. With a strong focus and momentum already moving forward, this feels in some ways to have the drive that the parent series could have benefited from, too. Read Full Review

Tom Raney's pencils are a bit mixed in quality. The inks lend an unusually harsh edge to his line-work. It's an interesting shift, but one that only works in the more dramatic scenes. Raney's figures also have a tendency to appear tense and slightly distorted here. Oddly, the issue features Captain America in his Jerome Opena-designed costume, rather than the more traditional costume seen in Uncanny Avengers. I assume we'll be seeing a lot of that back-and-forth in the early weeks of Marvel NOW. Read Full Review

This first chapter does an able job of establishing the characters we're going to focus on and lays the groundwork for what could eventually become a very engaging story. Even if you weren't fond of AvX (and let's be real.. many weren't), this is still worth checking out if you're interested in how the event will change the lives of a few primary characters. I was hesitant about picking this issue up. I tend to not like the whole post-mortem series for an event and this one didn't really change my mind but I did like the direction that this series is taking. I definitely wanted to know how the rest of the mutant brain trust was going to be handled in the aftermath and this comic lays that framework. This was a decent start to this series. Marvel comics have spent the last couple of years attempting to develop Cyclops as a character and a mutant leader. With Utopia, Schism, and now Avengers vs. X-Men, Scott Summers becomes an interesting superhero, even if he is not a popular one. I hope in later issues the focus will be more on his role in the Marvel Universe, rather than jumping from one character to another. Read Full Review

All in all, while not a horrible comic book in and of itself--for my expectation, the pricing, and the tiny chunks of a bunch of plot threads--I'd have to say this is probably better left on the shelf until the inevitable collected edition comes out, where the plot threads will all have 5 times the space to really get their points across in "full" rather than single-issue bits. For my $3.99, this issue disappointed me, and I probably would have been better-served to bite the bullet and have put my $3.99 to Uncanny Avengers instead. Read Full Review

Overall, I am stuck in the middle with this issue. The foundations have been set for some quite interesting things thus far, however there are other aspects of this mini series that I can tell already I will not be interested in in the slightest. This will not stop me picking it up though, as like most people who read AvX, I am desperate to see the implications of this years biggest story. Read Full Review
