Comicosity - Aaron Long
Jul 16, 2014Avengers World #9 is a riot that also manages to drive the story forward. Cannonball and Sunspot fans will adore this issue, and for readers who aren't as familiar with the characters, especially as Avengers, this is a great intro. Spencer and Caselli are one of the strongest creative teams in comics right now, and Avengers World, while being one of a myriad of Avengers books, is one of the best team comics there is. I highly recommend this issue for anyone who was a fan of Kelly Sue DeConnick's Avengers Assemble, and if you haven't tried Avengers World, I have a feeling this one will hook you in. We meet a new version of the Next Avengers, which is kinda stupid because that never works. Fortunately, the Bobby and Sam dynamic carries this issue

We finally get an explanation for the hook of the last Secret Avengers run (also helmed by Nick Spencer). It is an OK reveal, but it does feel a bit forced and it also discredits the version of the future being presented in this issue, since it doesn't seem very likely that the new characters revealed here would ever exist in the main Marvel Universe timeline.
