  Whether or not you choose to buy this issue comes down to one question: Are you willing to lay down $3.99 for a superior take on a comic that has been printed and reprinted ad nauseum? One thing I would have liked to see from this book is evidence that Casey has a larger plan in mind. Presumably he won't spend the entire mini-series adapting old Avengers comics and nothing more. I'd just like to see signs that he has the same structured plan in place he did for Earth's Mightiest Heroes. As fun a read as issue #1 is, I wont begrudge readers who pass this book over.   Comic Book Resources - Chad Nevett

  It's hard to say if this book is aimed just at continuity nerds or it's meant to be a window into the Avengers' past for newer readers brought in over the past few years by Brian Michael Bendis, but it's a good issue either way. Both Casey and Noto have a flair for combining the bombastic elements of these old stories with modern styles and trappings. There are a few things that don't work, but it's an entertaining read that gives the story of the Avengers' formation a little bit more room to breathe. Read Full Review

  With Heroic Age just around the corner and the Avengers franchise ready to relaunch soon, now would seem like an opportune time to reacquaint the masses with the principal concept behind Marvels premier superhero team. To a degree, I suppose The Origin accomplishes this task. Nevertheless, its chosen approach so far has been to adapt the details of its foundational storyline at the expense of recapturing the original comics imagination. Read Full Review
