Apr 14, 2012All that being said, this book is still what I've long looked for in an Avengers book. It's exciting. It's fast paced. It's got a lot of eye candy. Yeah, I'm not pleased with the ignorance to "Zodiac", but this book is still a lot of fun to read. Not only that, it is absolutely gorgeous. It feels like Mark Bagley was born to draw the Avengers. I don't care if this series lasts only an arc, or a year, or two years, but I hope Bagley is there for the long haul. Read Full Review

Apr 11, 2012If you want a simple, action-oriented Avengers book, Assemble has its merits. Mark Bagley's work is attractive in this issue and actually shows a higher level of detail and consistency than it did in issue #1. There's not much continuity to get in the way of the action, and there's something to be said for that in a time when nearly every other Avengers book is becoming tied up with Avengers vs. X-Men. And so, as with issue #1, the readers most pleased by this effort are going to be the ones who don't have much Avengers experience. For everyone else, the simplistic plotting and frustrating characterization are major hurdles to contend with. Read Full Review

Wow this comic was bad. A huge decrease of quality since issue one. The characters say Avengers Assemble like 5 times, and it just feels so forced. The Zodiac are revealed to be bland and generic villains. The Ultimate Nullifer is thrown into the play but it just doesn't work. The art sucks. The part where Steve says that this information stays between the six of them is an obvious and forced attempt by Bendis to keep the book centered around the 6 Avengers from the film. And this may be Mark Bagley at his worst. This and Guardians of the Galaxy are Bendis at his worst as well. I suggest starting at issue 9 when Kelly Sue DeConnick tales over. Marvel NOW has been incredible but this may be its worst title.
