You want heroes? You want awesome action? You want incredible antagonists? You want fast action? You want visuals to die for? You want Avengers No Surrender! This is reigniting my love of Marvel's characters and is spurring me to check out other titles. This is a gateway comic, to be sure. Read Full Review

No Surrender is a fun event that pulls inspiration from Avengers tales old and new, retconned and reimagined. There are obvious influences from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as new bits, specifically crafted to be grafted onto Avengers lore. Im loving the heck out of this story, and with ninety strong pages of Larraz-Curiel-Petit work done; Im stoked to see what the next few chapters bring. Read Full Review

The only real drawback here, is despite how fast things are moving. The reader doesn't really learn anything new here. That doesn't take away how enjoyable this issue is though. Avengers No Surrender has you hooked from the moment you open the issue. And in all fairness, that's what any comic book reader wants. To be hooked, drawn in and looking forward to what happens next. "Avengers Observe!" This is how it's done! Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Jason Dincauze

Overall, this is another strong chapter in an event that, while variable, continues to show itself worthy of carrying the Avengers title, giving readers a massive, high stakes story with plenty of gravitas and heart, and even a few laughs along the way. That said, the story is still bogged down by the increasingly jaded nature of modern readership, with some likely unmoved by Johnnys apparent death, since the likelihood that it will be permanent are slim. But for readers looking for big, bombastic superhero showdowns, with clear heroes fighting villains who are playing for keeps, this is one of the best books on the stands. Read Full Review

The first Avenger does indeed fall by the end of Avengers #678, and honestly? I'm not so sure that I could feel all too bothered by it. Not completely in a bad way because that hero who pays the ultimate price in turn will help the others better understand the game. I'm just hoping that these obstacles removed from play will allow for more focus on what matters to these Avengers who need to get it together. Read Full Review

AVENGERS #678 is a fast-paced book that delivers on the action. If you're into battles, this book is for you. However, if you're into backstory and setup, you might find yourself skimming the pages and just admiring the artwork of David Curiel and Pepe Larraz instead. Read Full Review

With any luck, this book will continue to capitalize on the wealth of heroes and villains at its disposal, especially the Black Order. With the caveat that it could use some focus and streamlining as well, this series has been extremely enjoyable so far. Some character development here and there, or some lasting effects on our heroes may be too much to ask from Marvel, but if the series can focus up and push itself in new directions, it could shape up to be something special. Surrender is no doubt going to be an epic story, but now we are a few issues in, the plot has slowed down and this means this issue has very little to move the story along. My big issue with this issue is how confusing the battles get, I often had to flip back and read it again, which is a shame, since I'm really interested to see where this story is going, but as we get closer to the middle arc, it might be a while before we find out anything. But it still has some fantastic artwork and some awesome fight scenes. It's an epic issue, but it's struggling under the weight of its own cast size. Read Full Review

    The GCRN - Daniel Clark

    Feb 03, 2018

Each issue so far has added another piece to this ever-growing puzzle. An enigmatic figure still lurks in the darkness as just small glimpses are shown. The lack of answers has yet to bog down the narrative into this pointless guessing game. Rather it has just served to add additional intrigue tothe rising stakes. Hopefully, future issues will get back to a better balance of action and story, but if this ends up being the weakest installment this could end up being the best Avengers book we have gotten in years. This is a whole mess of characters in what's essentially one big clumsy battle for the whole issue, but it's still a fun chapter. Read Full Review
