Avengers #9

Even a weak Bendis script is better than most, so this comic is still fun to read. But I can't help but wish for a different opponent for the team. As I've said before, The Hood is an interesting character, but he's no Thanos. Read Full Review

Many earlier reviews of this series have noted that John Romita Jr.'s artwork is being done a disservice by the overly heavy inking of Klaus Janson. I've been missing the comparatively light touch of Scott Hanna from Romita's Amazing Spider-Man days. Surprisingly enough, Hanna jumps on board this month to ink the Hood-centric scenes. The difference in clarity and line quality in these pages is readily apparent. I can only hope Hanna remains on board in some capacity going forward. Read Full Review

"Avengers" #9 finally exposes the Illuminati and reveals how the Hood began his quest for the Infinity Gems. It's an issue driven by characters, something that Bendis and Romita both excel at. For some, like me, this issue has been a long time coming, and it delivers. Read Full Review

I thought this series was lost after the Kang storyline but Bendis assembles The Illuminati, Avengers, New Avengers, Secret Avengers, and Red Hulk to fight an infinity stone wielding Hood who’s on the hunt for the entire Gauntlet!
