  (Cover Date: October, 1987) Summary: (Continued from WCA Annual #2) The Grandmaster tells the Avengers of how he used them to triumph over Death. He creates a new game where five Life-Bombs will recreate the universe unless the Avengers can destroy them in time. Opposing them is the Legion of the Unliving. In Hades, Hawkeye, Thor & Hank Pym are confronted by Nighthawk, Executioner & Swordsman. Thor uses his hammer's power to destroy the bomb, but sacrifices his own life. Hawkeye is the only one left alive after the fighting. Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, Moon Knight & Tigra are opposed by Drax the Destroyer, the original Captain Marvel, Death Adder & Green Goblin. She-Hulk, Tigra & Moon Knight are killed by their opponents. Captain Marvel de stroys the bomb before she is killed by the combined powers of OG CM, Drax & GG. Silver Surfer finds himself in a meteor swarm & is confronted by Korvac. As Korvac removes SS's protective silver coating, SS rams his surfboard into the bomb to destroy it & killing himself & Korvac. Iron Man, Black Knight, Dr. Druid & Mockingbird face off against Dracula, Red Guardian, Terrax & the original Black Knight. IM beats Terrax but loses the functionality of his armor. Distracted by Dracula attacking Mockingbird, Tony Stark is unable to defuse the bomb before it goes off. Wasp, Cap & Wonder Man confront Bucky, Hyperion & Baron Blood on a frozen planetoid. Wonder Man & Wasp are killed by their opponents. After getting past Baron Blood & Bucky, Cap destroys the bomb with his shield. Hawkeye & Cap reappear before the Grandmaster as the only living survivors. GM begins Round 2 with the fallen Avengers in the Legion of the Unliving. Hawkeye appeals to Grandmaster's fondness for games of chance. Grandmaster picks the arrow without a head & loses the bet, thus freeing Death. Hawkeye tells Cap afterwards that he cheated. Death sends all of the Avengers back to the Astrodome alive & well to resume their baseball game. The Grandmaster is exiled from Death's Realm, thus condemned to eternal life. He swears to get revenge against the Avengers for foiling his scheme. more
