SKIN DEEP PART 1 When a former classmate of Peter Parker botches an ambitious scientific experiment, it's Peter who just might pay the ultimate price, and learn a valuable lesson about great power and great responsibility...sound familiar? Don't bet on it!

    Comics Bulletin - Dave Wallace

As a final note, its nice to see continuity being more overtly acknowledged than usual this time round, with this issue giving a couple of footnotes and pointers as to how events in Amazing Spidey fit in with other spider-titles and the Marvel Universe as a whole. With each separate Spider-title seeming like an isolated story for many years, maybe editors have decided to attempt a gradual return to a more cohesive shared universe. Its not an approach which is appealing to everyone, but its nice to at least see some thought going into the various characters relationships on a grand scale. Read Full Review

    Comics Bulletin - Jason Cornwell

First off I have to say I loved the tongue-in-cheek feel of this issue's cover, as how can one not smile when looking at this image. As for the interior art, Mike Deodato does a pretty effective job of telling the material set in the present day, from Peter's harried behaviour in the opening pages, to a great one page collection of images as we see Peter is busy living his life, while Charlie Weiderman is busy carrying out his experiment. The final page explosion was also pretty impressive, as while you had to see it coming, it doesn't make it any less exciting from a visual sense. I also enjoyed the work that Mark Brooks turned in on the flashback material, as his work has a simple appearance that nicely suits the era that the story is supposed set in. In fact my only quibble with his art is that the writing suggests that this is supposed to be before Peter is bitten by the irradiated spider, but the art makes Peter look a little too buff. Ultimate Goblin

Wow, Mark Brooks! Honestly, I really like it, because it was my first TASM issue. I read it in 2007 and it seems still pretty nostalgic... But now I see, that this story isn't that flawless. Yeah, again, character from the past and we didn't hear anything about him before... And Peter is so paranoid... If he didn't hurry Charlie, then he wouldn't blow up the place... Also, there was ONLY one page of Peter in Spidey's costume, which feels pointless... And since when the hell Peter has a car?

Deodato is one my favorites, but here his artwork seems unfinished, unfortunately. I'm also getting tired of this ´´a new character introduced as an old friend appears and will be mad at the protagonist for their past`` kind of story
