Watching the present X-Men interact with these new future X-Men not only gives us delightful teases of information, but we also get some of the best character interactions yet. Young Iceman talking to Wizard Iceman is a hoot, while listening to Phoenix Quentin Quire reminds you that some people never mature even with age. The only interaction that seemed off-kilter was Mustachioed Colossus embracing Illyana. I could imagine something happened along the way to make him change his mind, but for Illyana to be so pleased at seeing her brother feels wrong given that they last time they were in the same company, Colossus wanted her dead. The art is still really beautiful and these different versions of the X-Men are done very well. You don't get confused who you're looking at because each character is done in a distinct way. I am counting down the days until the next issue and since it will be released right before the beginning of NYCC, I'm hoping for something big. Read Full Review

This was a fantastic issue that has gotten the crossover back to the level of quality that the first couple of issues showed. It also had some very exciting moments, as well as having plenty of mystery drama, suspense and emotion. There were also some brilliant interactions, and the future of the story looks very promising. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Battle of the Atom has become one of my favorite crossover events. There's so much craziness and twists that you're never quite sure what Brian Michael Bendis is going to throw at us next. Just when you think the story would begin to wind down to some big epic conclusion, we're still seeing the story being set up. Stuart Immonen has become one of my favorite X-Men artists with his work on ALL-NEW X-MEN. The little details he gives in the characters' expressions fits perfectly with Bendis' script and the subtle humor sprinkled in. I can't wait for the next chapter and thankfully we won't have to wait long. Read Full Review

Man time travel gets confusing sometimes, it's just such a ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. . . But it's still really good, I want to know what all these factors are that keep causing future version of heroes to lose their shit and try and change history. After going through a few chapters that progressed at a snails pace Brian Bendis turned in a fine six chapter to the X-Men Battle of the Atom crossover. With a greater look at what the future holds for the X-Men if things stayed as they were Bendis furthered the unpredictable pace of this story. As a reader this makes what happens next be even more exciting because I have no idea what each character will do the closer we get to the end. There is so much going on in this story that I just want to get my hands on the next chapter of this crossover. In the end, Bendis was able to reinvigorating my interest in this crossover with All-New X-Men #17. Read Full Review

Good issue that added some depth to this plot, though that's all that can really be said about it. It was short and I do feel that a bit more could have gone into this specific issue to make you care about this real team. Everything is too vague and feels as though we're being teased instead of entertained. You are basically left with more questions than answers. If it were any artist other than Immonen, All-New X-Men #17 might've stuttered through a confusing bit of storytelling. Instead, this is one of the most visually stunning issues of Battle of the Atom, and it finishes by bringing the true future X-Men to the present to set up the final act of this event. Battle of the Atom slows down a little bit with the next chapter, and I'm OK with that. The last issue was a fantastic mid-series climax, and now it's time to set up the rest of the story. We get to know a lot more about the Future X-Men, along with a proper introduction of the second team of Future X-Men and why there was a future schism in the first place. So this is really a plot moving issue bolstered by the awesomeness of time-traveling Iceman. Read Full Review

“Battle of the Atom's” greatest strength continues to be the emotional impact it offers with both the story and the characters. This issue offered an impact of a different kind, creating a future that has far more contemporary parallels than previous time travel stories like Days of Futures Past. While the impact of Days of Futures Past was established in its own time, the impact of Battle of the Atom is resonating in a much more modern context. Yet it still uses elements from the past in a very literal sense, which makes the story seem all the more appropriate. Read Full Review

Even having read the first three chapters of the crossover, there's a large disconnect for me getting into Chapter Six, and the pricing issue really does stick in my craw, especially given that this issue is really more like half an issue. All-New X-Men #17 looks pretty amazing, admittedly, with some nice designs and craft, but not a lot of story to be had, and the lion's share of the character work devoted to an YET ANOTHER alternate future reality in the X-Men's array thereof. I feel like we're finally getting into the meat of the story. All the players and their various motivations have been revealed, to some extent. At least I hope that's all the characters--don't think I can handle too many more. It's all ridiculous, but in a fun and clever way. At some point one of the characters wishes he had a flow chart to keep up with all the time-traveling confusion, but honestly the story is pretty coherent and the story-line has been laid out in a fashion that makes it fairly easy to follow along.
