With no direct relevance to the main crossover and no particularly standout qualities, readers can be forgiven for skipping over Age of X: Universe. But the more hardcore fans of Carey's work may find Spurrier a worthy fill-in. Read Full Review

Apr 04, 2011Ultimately, the biggest problem with "Age of X Universe" isn't its execution, but its conception. Given the apparent premise of "Age of X" (which, admittedly, has yet to be revealed) I have a worrying feeling that this is a series dedicated to telling stories which didn't happen, based on false memories of characters who are trapped in a world that doesn't really exist. It's the kind of affliction that made the additional "House of M" prequel miniseries feel like pointless chaff. There are some fun moments, but nothing that particularly illuminates the characters or setting of "Age of X" " they're just a pair of What If stories set in the same universe. If that's what you enjoy, it's a fine example of it but, make no mistake, it's nothing we've not seen before. Read Full Review

Apr 02, 2011Ultimately comic books are all about expectations. I was hoping this mini series would either provide some context to the mutant situation or give some recognizable mutants for the characters in these stories. This book doesn't do either and becomes a throwaway for the crossover. Priced at $4 I am thinking this is a book that can be skipped unless you absolutely must have the entire crossover. Don't be fooled, though, the creator's work within the covers is good and enjoyable. It's the book's direction and price point that makes it something you can miss. Read Full Review

Apr 01, 2011This just wasn't very good. There are some interesting things here, but this feels really tacked onto the Age of X crossover. On the plus side, there is nothing here that is vital to Age of X, so you can skip it if you're just following the main story. Read Full Review
