You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff
Jan 16, 2025As fresh as it all seems, its still firmly rooted in the stories that had the first appeared over a quarter century ago. What Bennett is doing is narrowing the focus on a story that feels much more rooted in the heart of the inspiration behind a character than the original series managed this far in. There was a real restlessness with respect to the way everything was moving in the 1990s. Bennett has a much more disciplined approach to telling the story of this particular hero. This book is flailing. I thought we would get some cool darkness, instead we just get one intro page at the start of him walking. This has the same beats as the original but just worse. Read the original. Better in all ways.
