Basically, a bunch of 1920s gods based on major modernist figures stuck in the middle of an Agatha Christie murder mystery, done in a comics-prose hybrid that's clearly trying to start a fight with JONATHAN HICKMAN. (Yeah, you heard, Jon. Come at us, bro.) It's high art versus lo art, with the most beautiful AUD KOCH artwork the world has ever seen. We're so excited, we may have to have a lie down.

Feb 07, 2018The Wicked and The Divine: 1923 #1 is another great example of Gillen and McKelvies amazing creation, an engrossing story full of interesting characters that keeps you turning the pages til the end, while also dealing with higher themes of art and how it affects society and individuals. Readers may not be totally on board for the prose sections at first, but they grow on you and show themselves to be indispensable to the story. Read Full Review

The Pop Break - Marisa Carpico
Feb 07, 2018Simply put, this latest issue is an undeniably tough, dense read, but even if not all of it makes sense just now, it's hard to resist trying to unpack its mysteries. As Ananke is quoted as saying on the issue's back cover, "This will have to be my masterpiece." This just might be Gillen's. Read Full Review

Comic Watch - Ryne Wiley
Feb 14, 2018A playful mystery style novel plays out as the gods of the 1923 Pantheon uncover a conspiracy. The arrogance of the gods is overshadowed by the overarching head of the chaos, Ananke, as she manipulates the gods like puppets to enact one of her masterful plans. Still leaving plenty of questions, the one-shot feels as fun and sexy as its main series counterpart. Read Full Review

Feb 08, 2018These one shots forThe Wicked + The Divinecontinue to impress, and1923 may be the strongest yet. With a strong cast of characters, links to the main series and gorgeous art (not that McKelvie's work on the main series isn't equally gorgeous. This is different-gorgeous), it is well worth your time and as a short story, stands alone fairly well too. Check this out at your LCS now! Read Full Review

Feb 07, 2018Though the art is strong and beautiful as usual, this was a complete disappointment for me. I would have much rather have seen this fully drawn out and longer than the typical issue than what was given. Read Full Review
