The Warning #3

There are elements of The Warning that feel very familiar to any other military-based story. There is a powerful undercurrent of something deeper here, though. In an August 16th article on Image Comics website, Laroche referred to the series as the first act of an opera. The immensity of the story DOES feel a bit operatic. Its like Independence Day crossed with Kubricks 2001. This sort of fusion makes for a very interesting and unique exploration of alien invasion as Laroches opera continues. Read Full Review

Now that the attack on the aliens has commenced, things are about to get even more chaotic for the inhabitants of the Earth. So far The Warning has been a taut thriller with a fair amount of story. This issue adds to that accomplishment admirably and hints at a deepening in character development. Read Full Review

I am liking this story, Although at times I find it hard to follow. For example I liked the mental monologue of the protagonist. The questions he feels about still being a part of human written history when he has been modified. I mean the Buddhist speculations about reincarnation. But I can't recall his name, only that he is the leader of "Gladiator two six" which is a cool name for a team. There was also the scene about the orbital strike from The International Space Station MK Two,which I though was a really cool idea but I questioned the necessity of having someone go outside the station to aim the orbital strike. I guess you could compare it to soldiers in real life guiding bombs with lazers. But if you have the technology for an or bital strike would there still be the need to have someone aim the strike from space when a computer could easily handle it? The motorcycle project Jackknife was using was cool, no idea where it came from or how a super cool motorcycle would be necessary to fight off an alien invasion, it was Supra cool non the less. The orbital laser in the last pages was awesomely depicted, kudos to the artists. I'd say 9.0 fo sure. more

Well, it looks good. What, in the name of all that is holy, is going on? Narratively, this comic is a complete mess. Things happen and people speak in military jargon. This is not story-telling. There are also absolutely no characters either. There are a couple of plot ciphers, but just because they have faces and names (which are completely unmemorable because there is no character attached to them) does not make them characters. What a horrible mess. I really liked the first issue; it was other-worldly and rather zen-like in places, but that appealed to me. However, even that has now gone, we just have garbled nonsense instead of a story. What a huge shame.
