The Seasons has been a fantastical, and fantastic, adventure that's gotten darker with each issue. After the revelations of the previous issues, where the secrets of the circus and the motivations of its evil ringleader were finally exposed, this week’s issue sees Spring Seasons trying to escape the magical world she's been trapped in. And what a journey it is!
Artist Paul Azaceta and colorist Matheus Lopes' visuals are nothing short of breathtaking — a hallmark of the series. Every panel is rich in visual storytelling, conveying the whimsical nature of Spring's journey with imaginative detail. The colors are vibrant, the characters are expressive, and the panel structure is innovative. Rus Wooton’s lettering keeps readers focused
even when the images might be upside-down or wrong-side up.
The issue isn’t just a visual treat. Rick Remender's script packs two heartfelt reunions into the issue, bringing humanity to the story which reminders readers that, at its core, this is a story about family and relationships. These moments are beautifully written, and they add an emotional resonance that's impossible to shake.
And then there's Spring herself. This issue sees her stand up for herself, something she's been unable to do during previous confrontations. It's a powerful moment, and it points to how she'll approach the endgame of this story. Spring's determination to fight for herself and her family, even when she’s forced to question her own self-worth, is so admirable. I’ve always been a fan, but I'm rooting for her even more now.
The Seasons #6 is a visually inventive issue that pairs creative feats with emotional stakes. The series continues to be one of the most compelling and consistently strong books, issue after issue, on shelves today and I'm eager to see where the story goes from here. more
