Shutter #3

Sure, the dark and gritty occasionally finds its way into this book, but itneverdominates an entireissue. Instead, Keatinge does a great job balancing the occasional dark and gritty bit with humorous panels that just make the book seem downright fun. At times, that sense of fun may be buried under an avalanche of human pain and loss, but its always undoubtedly there, and that does wonders for this book. Just when the characters seem to be beaten down and at their lowest, it's nearly always the case that there's something fun and interesting to get them out of that situation, be it a cute talking alarm clock cat or something as simple as having a good friend there for them. Every time I read a new issue from this series, I find myself telling my friends about how insane it is and how they must read it. That is a rare thing these days in any art medium. To say that I have become an instant fan of Shutter is a huge understatement. I am totally digging the quirky cool vibes that have flowed solidly for three issues. And it looks like there is no letting up. Nice big multicolored bombs have been dropped (literally) that continue to astonish, amaze, and make me want more and more. Keep up the good work guys. This comic is everything I want out of comics, and it's just a whirlwind of pure comic booking in all the best ways. Keatinge, del Duca, Gieni and Brisson should bend over backwards patting themselves on their backs, because this " excuse my Eisner nominated French " shit is the goddamn bomb. Read Full Review

Yes, the third issue doesn't push ournarrative forward in leaps and bounds. But with exposition this strong, why the need?Shutterunderstands that in order to have a mind-blowing fantasy world, one needs to be created first. It's happening slowly, but that bodes well for when the true action really hits. Keatinge and Del Duca are already becoming a favorite pairing. One wouldn't work without the other. Shutter continues to appeal but this particular issue fails to astound. Nevertheless it's still a terrific read so be kind to Joe Keatinge on his birthday and pick up a copy of this issue. Recommended. Read Full Review

This issue is still set-up for the most part as we begin to learn all of the characters that will be put into play, but do not necessarily know anything more information in regards to the plot. A villainous fox is introduced that has a war history with a lion. A salamander that reluctantly attempts to murder Kate after receiving divorce papers and worrying about alimony. There's even a flashback of Kate's best friend and the reveal of his transgender challenges during childhood. While all of these seem noble to portray in the story, it seemingly offers little insight to the plot while we have been teased on the idea of Kate's “siblings” for three issues now. In lieu of the scattered story directions, there is still much enjoyment to take away from this series and enough to like about it to keep reading. Read Full Review

Shutter #3 is an alright issue of the series that needed more going on in it. The characterization and continuing growth with is world is nice, along with the artwork. However, it just needs some more story and exploration of Kate's past before it can really feel fantastic. Luckily, the next issue looks to be fulfilling that so stick around. I imagine were one, maybe two issues away from it all coming together, and things are certainly looking up after the relatively lacklustre first issue. Shutter is home to a lot of quirky, creative, and enjoyable characters. Issue three really showcases what is so great about Shutter, the world and those who inhabit it. Unfortunately the only uninteresting character is the one the book is centered around and issue three does little to further invest the reader in Kate. The team of Keatinge and Del Luca have built a beautiful and original world which should give readers the confidence Kate will join in soon. Read Full Review

All-in-all I was excited about the main two storyline in this week's issue and I think they makes comic worth checking out in the months to come. Shutter is becoming the comic my girlfriend is tired of hearing me talk about. Also it's becoming one of the hottest new comics of 2014. Shutter is full of imagination, surprises, and pure joy. Number 3 is fantastic. We see the aftermath of the assassination attempt, Kate revisiting her past and that adorable adorable ADORABLE cat. Not to mention a nice little cliffhanger that leaves us all saying hurry the hell up July 9th! I almost forgot to mention the fact that the beautiful and talented Leila Del Duca once again transforms JK's words into majestic illustrations. At the end of the day what I'm trying to tell you people is this: BUY THIS COMIC!
