Comics Crux - Cal Cleary
Jul 04, 2013Building and populating these fantastical science fiction settings is one of Ellis' greatest strengths, so a $0.99 ongoing series that promises adventure in a dense, weird alien world is an ongoing series that I'm going to want to follow. Scatterlands #1 isn't deep. It isn't heavy on plot or character. It doesn't have any of the traditional hooks for a modern comic book. But it's still a book you should absolutely try out. Moody, atmospheric science fiction is pretty rare in mainstream comics; moody, atmospheric science fiction done this well is considerably harder to find. Ellis and Howard knew exactly what they wanted to do here, and every element - the colors, the inks, the captions - is geared towards doing that one thing and doing it well. Read Full Review

Jul 05, 2013"Scatterlands" is a blast of beautiful artwork and storytelling, done for a tale that's a little obtuse. For the price, though, you can't complain. Reading it all in one sitting certainly helps pull the world together for you more than reading it five times a week for months. Read Full Review
