Primordial #5

Primordial #5 is yet another triumph of visual storytelling. Any other writer would be doing some world-building based on the alternate history of the book, but Lemire isnt doing that here. Primordial #5 is both beautifully heartwarming and tragic as Lemire and the team perfectly contrast the pure innocence of the returning animals base natures with that of human beings all the while pushing the narrative journey to a definitive climax and filling in the large gap in time with clever imagery and dialogue which tells you the story without having to implicitly explain anything at all and that's the mark great visual storytelling. Primordial #5 jumps in time to 2024 and a much older Yelena. Still hoping to be reunited with Laika. It's a familiar story, but too familiar for this reviewer. Even if dressed up as a science fiction story that spans space and time. Read Full Review

Speculation:Currently in the Pipe Jeff Lemire has: Sweet Tooth season 2; Essex County; Black Hammer; and Gideon Falls. So it wouldn't be such a stupid bet to take a chance on Primordial #1 (OF 6) CVR I 100 COPY INCV Lemire because it kind of does have all three Animals on the cover. Read Full Review

This is just damn good comic booking by all parties. Lemire has packed so much emotion into this short story and Sorrentino's art has lifted it to another stratosphere. The way Sorrentino and Stewart used a change in artistic style to hammer home the bond between our space-faring trio, before hitting us with a whale of a gut punch at the end of the book (in the same style) left me devastated and was highly effective. In all honesty, this might be the high point of what's already been an incredibly fruitful partnership between writer, artist, and colorist. Every issue has been great.

I think a re read of the series will be in order but, it's a good installment and was really sad at the end.
