Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this new issue, finding it to be a great introduction to the third story arc. There is a lot going on here, and I do recommend brushing up on your Monstress lore, reminding yourself of what unfolded in the previous story arc. Reading Monstress is absolutely more an experience than just reading another comic book. Its another great example of a creative team meshing together and making each others abilities shine even more. MONSTRESS #13 is a quick but worthy read for all fans of Liu and Takeda's best-selling series. Stunning art perfectly shows the interplay of light and shadow that characterizes Maika's world. Monstress has been away for far too long and stepping back into it is a breath of fresh air. I've so missed this comic and this issue is a well-crafted ease back into the madness and fury and opulence that is Monstress. I will add that fans may have to hit the back issues to familiarize themselves as the break has been long and you may have forgotten about a character or two. Monstress #13 is a challenging but overall intriguing read set in a deep and complex world with complex politics and driven characters. Its hard to get into it, especially with its liberal use of its own arcane terminology. However, I still find myself recommending it for how interesting the world is and the beautiful art by Sana Takeda. Give it a try. Read Full Review

At this point, new readers should be warned about Monstress. It's convoluted lore and history can cause a headache for even it's most devoted fans sometimes. But if you have been keeping up with the series, Monstress #13 provides more of what to of what you love- giant monsters, Maika being a badass, and Takeda fantastic art. Read Full Review

"Monstress" is back with a plus-size issue, and after a bit of time clearing the fogwebs from my brain and aligning the characters in this fantasy story of political intrigue, but it is really an interesting issue with a lot going on, and, you know, full of beautiful art and fun to read. The expanded size works well here to re-establish things for this arc, and there are major shifts in the playing field that will need to be reckoned with in this arc. I don't read many comics quite like "Montress," (I'm not sure there are any!) but this is a satisfying read that is always one of my faves when I find it in my new stack of comics for the week. Go "Monstress"!
