You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff

The world in which all of the action is going to be taking place is still developing at this point. Its very reassuring to see the moral complexity lowered into this one. This is a coming-of-age magical fairy tale, but its going to be a very ethically complicated one. With the right economy of words and image in well-paced scenes, this third issue establishes important conventions this serial will hopefully continue to follow for many, many issues and what will hopefully be a very long run. Word Of The Nerd - Cat Wyatt

Middlewest has already earned myfaith in the series. I know that I'll keep coming back to learn more about Abel's quest. I just can't stay my curiosity, nor can I bear to look away from such striking art. Abel's quest is growing into something more; that much, Middlewest #3 has made clear to me. There's so much more going on here than meets the eye. And I don't think Abel has the faintest clue of the part he's playing in all of this. I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes, and what answers Abel will be able to attain from his world. Read Full Review

    Multiversity Comics - John Schaidler

Final Verdict: 8.4 The visual artists are completely in sync with a distinct, compelling aesthetic that feels perfectly suited to the story, even as writer Skottie Young turns the narrative inward to explore the complex emotions of the series' two primary characters. Read Full Review

    Sequential Planet - Marcus Orchard

    Jan 16, 2019

Middlewest #3 is another successful issue, giving us a break from Abel and Fox to humanize a character that was previously thought to be irredeemable. The sense of wonder is still there, and this is an easy title to recommend to fantasy fans. Read Full Review

The core story of Middlewest is coming into more focus, and it provides a lot more focus to what has felt like a drifting series so far. Read Full Review
