  There is a great piece at the back whereby you learn how the TV show came into existence that is an informative bookend to a great debut issue.   MacGyver is back with a bang. You have the classic feel of the show but slightly updated to keep it feeling too "80s." The story is a little too straightforward, but it sets up what's needed and seemingly ramps up the action for the remaining issues. As far as licensed books go, this is one of the better ones.   The series so far is going strong, with an exciting pace and a style that fans are sure to remember. Gadgets, espionage and a series of events that will put Mac on the wrong end of a lot of guns is on full display, with Mac bringing all the wit and skill he always has. With four more issues on the way, it seems that MacGyver is back and better than ever, bringing his signature style back to the fans who know and love him. Read Full Review

  "Lee David Zlotoff, Tony Lee and Will Sliney deliver an action-packed comic that succeeds in shifting the character to the modern era, but falls short of creating an innovative espionage story. While there are enough MacGyverisms to hook old fans, the story lacks a "wow factor" that may bring readers unfamiliar with the character back for the second issue. Read Full Review

  It's been so long, and I barely remember the series, but this just doesn't feel like a MacGyver story. Folks are out to kill him, people are being killed, the gizmo escape is meh, it's just off. Maybe the entire story arc together will work, but this first issue wasn't enough to get me to want to come back for more. Read Full Review

  Unfortunately this doesn't rewrite MacGyver so much as is reads like and in cannon episode of the show, and if you're looking for that it is spot on. Mac's wit, subtle aloofness and pension of building complex sort of weapons are all intact along with the traditional silly reasons for him ending up involving the first place. I think as this continues on I'll really enjoy it as the disappointment of what could have been is replaced by my waiting for each issue's "Ah, that was clever" moment. Read Full Review

  This story's start in this issue is an enjoyable romp but is nothing revolutionary. Fans of MacGyver may find themselves disappointed with their heroes' butchered looks, but if they want a fun adventures story, this is a good start to one.
