Invincible #132

‘The End of All Things' may be the chapter to bring Invincible to a close, but the events of Invincible #132 gets you pumped for what has been unleashed in Mark's family. This universe is at war, but I don't think it knows war yet with how personal this has become. This creative team knows what fans want from a story like this and they are delivering. The speed with which this issue wraps is a little bit awkward, but Invincible #132 is a solid read full of action, conflict and oh god, so very much blood. Read Full Review

Finally, at least some intensity after so many slow paced issues. Eve's powers are a cheat... It really wasn't a surprise, that's a good thing Kirkman didn't make a "big twist" out of this and the issue concluded not with them being torn apart...

Listen...this issue had some intense moments, however, I can't help but feel a little bit indifferent at this point whenever somebody gets torn in half or has a hole punched through them. Why? Because it rarely seems to matter in the end. The number of times a character has seemed to meet their demise only to somehow survive and heal completely is getting a little silly. So far, the characters we've seen "die" only for it to be revealed that they didn't actually die include Immortal (although I get that that's kinda his whole thing), Mark (several times), Eve (several times), Dupli-Kate, Angstrom Levy, the Mauler twins, Conquest, Allen (twice), and probably a few others I'm forgetting. I am enjoying the story, but some of these moments woul d pack way more of a punch if they actually had lasting effects. It seems like in this issue (SPOILER ALERT) Oliver really did die, but when Thragg punched through him, I felt nothing, because in the back of my mind I was thinking "Ah well, people have survived worse. He'll be fine." Eve's leg being ripped off by Robot a while ago was even undone, so that didn't ultimately mean anything either other than being used for shock value. That's what having so many fake-out deaths does. It takes away the surprise if the character does recover, and it takes away the emotional gut punch if they don't. Kirkman has played that trick several times too many in this series and it's taken something significant away from this series. Part of me wonders if The Walking Dead was his attempt at fixing this mistake by having so many deaths that were actually permanent. Wish we had gotten a little more of that here, but oh well. Oh, and Cory Walker's art still kinda sucks. Really glad we get Ottley back next issue. more

This was okay. Cory Walker can draw, but this issue feels very rushed, as it doesn't seem up to standards. And the conclusion of the story seems like a bit of a cheat. I'm still looking forward to what is to come, but this didn't fully deliver for me.

It's difficult to avoid the conclusion that this series is staggering towards its finishing line. With it's current show publishing schedule, it's going to be around for years yet.
