Hit-Girl #5

Lemire really bellies up to the bar and delivers a noir tale paired with Risso that is a world-class example of the genre. Fans of the genre who are not turned off by language, violence, and peril, go out and grab a copy of this issue before it's gone. Mark Millar's vision for the "Hit-Girl" series is a grand curation of dream creators adding their take to the character's mythology. Reportedly, three years of stories have already been commissioned, so this is just the beginning. In her own right, Hit-girl is an iconic character with a complexity and personality that can inspire endless stories. As long as Mindy can avoid any stray Wolverines in the Great White North, this arc from Lemire and Risso is on track to add another distinct impression to the bloody legacy of Lady McCready. Lemire also incorporated some Big Daddy flashbacks, which was a nice touch and hopefully something he'll explore further. This story arc could have been the dealbreaker having switched up the creative team, but I have to say that there is still potential for this psychotic 12-year-old doing what she does best. Canadian hospitality is not enough to keep Hit-Girl from getting to her next target. The fun this time around is that her target is not willing to go down without a fight. This book was pretty fun and enjoyable. It's not really bringing anything new to the table, but it is a cool story to read. I was delighted to see Eduardo Risso on pencils, as he's easily one of the best artists in the industry. And I'm Canadian and this is taking place in Canada, so, yeah! Fun book.
