  This issue is rounded out by a lengthier backup tale from writer Steve Niles and artist Val Mayerik. This dialogue-light story focuses a bit more on the human side of the zombie/robot conflict. Mayerik really shines here. Although the art style is far less reminiscent of Wood's work, Mayerik does a great job of injecting the story with expressive emotion and lending this world a bit of a Wild West feel.   Yes, this is quite an enjoyable comic book. It sends a breath of fresh air into the idea of zombies and despite some awkwardness in exposition, is a delightful read.   Zombies vs Robots delivers on its title in spades. Usually you need a major human character to make a horror story like this work, but this just transcends that need and delivers a fun comic. Opening it up for other creators to add to the overall mythos is a nice touch and I'm interested to see who else will be joining the book down the line. Read Full Review

  I'm intrigued by where this may be going. Will the Amazons be back? I sure hope so. And Ryall promises Mermen. Zombies vs. Robots vs. Amazons vs. Mermen? This could turn into one big joke.   These stories are entertaining and full of genre fun, though Niles and Mayerik's final short in the book is really something to behold. With Ryall promising zombie-squids, mermen, and much more insanity on the way for the series, Zombies vs. Robots looks to be a book to keep up with if you're looking for a splice of horror/sci-fi excitement.   "Zombies vs. Robots" #1 has a few new things to say about the zombie genre and, in reading the back matter, it seems like Ryall is excited to jump back into this story. The issue ends with a solid cliffhanger that opens the door for new complications on both the "Z" and the "R" end of the title. "Zombies vs. Robots" #1 is a great return to the series.
