  The Crow: Skinning the Wolves#1 somehow manages to fly by whilesimultaneouslygetting the series off to a slow start. Neither problem, however (if the first can even be called that), is enough to derail the story's powerful emotional resonance.   For all of the skill on display, The Crow: Skinning the Wolves feels a bit typical. It fits snugly into the modern tropes of the modern "historical revenge" sort of fantasy that industrial scale suffering seems to have unleashed on our culture, and its voice is a little too reliant on an early 90s Sandman sort of vibe. Still, the book manages to satisfy, and while there are some elements that feel very derivative, it manages to avoid the cliche. Read Full Review

  That said, while theres plenty of action and implications for further issues, there still isnt necessarily a lot that actually happens in this issue. The dialogue is sparse as well, and although thats not necessarily a criticism, there are certain characters like the Crow himself whose dialogue seems rather generic for the most part. Still, this isnt enough to overcome the solid aspects of this first issue. Definitely worth checking out. Read Full Review

  Comic Bastards - Dustin Cabeal

  I’ll probably keep reading this mini until it finishes because it does a lot right and I find it’s setting to be very interesting. For once the WWII angle isn’t completely played out and works with the story. It’s hard to imagine that this is coming from the same company as the ongoing (I believe it’s an ongoing), granted it does have the return of the creator to the property he made popular; but this is leaps and bounds better. If you gave up on the Crow like I did, give this another shot. Read Full Review
