Issue 100 is next month, and it promises to be completely fantastic. While new readers should go back to at least the start of City At War with issue 93, people whove been keeping up with this storyline are in for a fantastic treat. The writing team has done a tremendous job of weaving in and out of different characters' story arcs and having them all intertwined to culminate in this huge event. Nobody gets shortchanged, either; each character gets their own little time in the spotlight. As usual, everything from the art, ink, and words are nothing short of spectacular. Something that I think that Dave Wachter does really well in this book is he complements the storyline with great art that smoothly transitions itself from page to page, making sure the art and storyline stay in sync. That is just one of the many elements that make TMNT 99 a really great and fun read. With issue 100 right around the corner, I can only imagine what is in store for us. I appreciate the double issue. This series is on of my favs, and to get extra pages is welcomed no matter the price point. Splinter truly is the leader this book needs. The tie-in’s to previous books like the rat king is nice too. Art is great and consistent, the writing keeps getting better, and the lettering is on point. All in anticipation of issue 100, the comic is a must buy.

characters. The first thing I'll mention is the beautiful cover from David Wachter. David is by far my favorite cover artist and he delivers another gem here with Splinter behind bars. Most publishers reserve their best covers for variants. Dave's covers are generally some of the best covers no matter what variants IDW commissions for this series. His covers also generally relate to something that actually happens in the book which is something that we see less and less of in the current year. I thought it was weird that IDW hit us with a $7.99 cover price. I'm not a fan of that but in fairness, the book is 56 pages and the cover and the format has been enhanced so I'll give the higher price point a pass and to be honest the book is wor th it. There is great action and character moments here and most of the City At War plot points begin to converge in epic fashion. We also get a pretty amazing cliffhanger. David also does the interiors this time around and he gets a lot of ground to cover. The book begins with Old Hob and the fallout from his release of the mutagen bomb at last issues conclusion. We jump to Splinter as he engages with The Rat King. The comic then shifts to Metal Head and his conflict with Donatello before jumping to a massive confrontation with the Foot Clan at their home base. Leonardo gets the standout scene for me which has to be seen to be believed. The encounter is even stronger because it has been firmly established that the plot armor of our heroes only goes so far. When they commit to a decision it can go either way which makes every encounter tense. With the constant shifts in settings the comic vaguely reminds me of the 90's Konami games. The book shifts from setting to setting like the stages of a video game and with issue #100 we're approaching the end of the game for City At War and the Tom Waltz run. I can't wait for the conclusion but its gonna be bittersweet seeing him go, Kudos sir! more

i was honestly very upset when i'd found out this issue was double priced. this probably would not have happened had the series' plot not been so stagnant. the story really needs to start moving faster on a regular basis. at least with this double sized issue we were finally able to get a decent set-up for issue #100. as the front end of this City_At_War arc was dragging sluggishly. this issue starts with more backstory that we really should have gotten back in the story arc from issues 67-70. and some of the unexpected partnerships set-up in the beginning of this arc (that felt very forced to begin with) are already starting to dissolve. overall this issue was enjoyable. many cool things happened. still feels like wayyyyyy too many characters crammed here fighting for screen time. it is honestly very difficult for me to recommend this to someone not already years invested into this story. i've been reading this series since the beginning, and i even have a hard time remembering who some of these characters are, or what their real motivation are. more
