Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #87

TMNT #87 is a great "middle issue" for this story arc. It sets up some interesting plot details and pushes the story in all the right directions. Wachter does a fantastic job on all these characters. From the Mutanimals to the Triceratons he delivers some wonderfully detailed characters. He also knows how to draw and exciting battle! Ronda Pattison' colors continue to be magical as always. IDW's TMNT series continues to be fantastic and everyone should be reading it! Read Full Review

When the end of the year list is compiled of greatest or scariest villains It would be remiss if Agent Bishop doesn't make the cut. The guy is probably the most amoral character I've seen in recent years. He's evil to the point of parody but it's not funny and I genuinely worry about any of our heroes if Bishop gets his hands on them.  Issue #87 continues with the rapidly escalating conflict between the EPF (Earth Protection Force) and the combined might of the Triceratons and Ultrons.  The turtles teleport into the middle of the conflict and attempt to confront Bishop directly as he is in control of a living WMD, Slash. The plan goes well until it becomes apparent that Agent Bishop isn't quite human.  The cover for the issues hints at what the reveal will be but it doesn't quite lessen the impact of seeing Bishop tanking killing blows and gunshots from the TMNT and Mutanimals. All of this is wonderfully rendered by _ and The B plot of the story is that while the fight is going on Ch'Rell, a Krang loyalist is released from stasis in an attempt to turn the tide of the conflict. He puts together a group and winds up entering the fray at the end.  There is a metric ton of action in this issue and I thoroughly enjoy seeing this war play out and the stakes continually raised. The art is so good! Stories got a little drive now and it was well a surprisingly well paced issue. Turtles always have fun adventures it's just this story reminds you over and over I'd what the characters are doing and it's frustrating..this arc is doing a better job so far at not being so informative.

so far this story is far too bogged down with pacing issues for me to really be able to tell that there’s been a full on battle going on since last issue. i’m just not feeling the intensity of sense of urgency. now even though this issue really took it’s time to get started, eventually it began to actually feel some sense of adventure… …then the story stopped dead in it’s tracks to give us a backstory we probably should have gotten immediately after issue 70. back in issue 70, Bishop was revealed to the Ninja Turtles as not being fully human. there was a very cool splash page with half of Bishop's face ripped off, and a T-800 looking endo-skeleton underneath. Leonardo even chopped off Bishop's hands in that issue. the n the next time we saw Bishop, his hands had been replaced. but NOW 17 issues later everyone is all acting surprised, like this is somehow a new revelation. Ch’Rell gets another big entrance cliff-hanger at the end. hope we get some real action in the next issue. more
