Overall, Star Trek: Defiant #1 an excellent debut issue which stokes the nostalgia for Star Trek: The Next Generation fans. The story by Cantwell is excellent. The art by the creative team is amazing. Altogether, it's a story that is a great companion to the last season of Picard. Read Full Review

The description of this book being the Dirty Dozen meets Star Trek is pretty much bang on. And I can't wait to see how this ongoing story arc will further link up with that of the ongoing arc in the main Star Trek comic. Read Full Review

Star Trek: Defiantwill make you excited for more IDW Star Trek comics, period. The motley crew is established in this first issue, which promises plenty of drama between the characters as they attempt to save the universe and maybe even themselves. Read Full Review

Final ThoughtsThe opening pages with their difficult introduction to the series premise results in an overall uneven first issue. That said, STAR TREK DEFIANT #1 offers a great deal of potential. Cantwell has peppered in a number of small details, of which any or all could lead to future story arcs. When it comes to the art, though, the issue is a runaway success and establishes a distinct feel from the start. Readers currently enjoying the new STAR TREK series should definitely pick this up. This series doesnt get off to quite as smooth a start as its parent. But its still worth it to experience this very separate side to the same story. Read Full Review

Unzueta deliver some stunning art in the issue. I love the look and visual style of the story and how the characters, including how they dress, play into the darker tone of the story. Read Full Review

The script is certainly a slow burn, but the line art from Unzueta and Marissa Louise helps bring it to life in a spectacularly realistic fashion. Read Full Review
