Sep 02, 2012I am not that familiar with the Popeye character, with the exception of the old cartoons and the dreadful Robin Williams movie, but from what I understand this is a throw back to the type of stories that used to be published in the comics and newspaper strips. If that is true than I can start to see why the character has maintained his popularity over the years, this issue really entertained me. While not a comic I would have even thought to have picked up if I saw it in a comic shop, the sales success of the series speaks to the characters enduring popularity as well as the creators abilities to tap into that market.
