Unleash The Fanboy - Daniel Alvarez
Mar 05, 2013Overall, a fine conclusion to the first arc of the My Little Pony Ongoing. From this point on Twilight and Queen Chrysalis will be known as sworn enemies. And I don't how many other readers havenoticedit, but lately there has been thismysteriousbackground pony. Later in the issue as the Mane 6 talk to Princess Celestia you see this thing lone in the background, this is about the third time. Mysterious and creepy pony aside, I'm looking forward to seeing what the Ongoing has in store. IDW has a very good thing on the stands, I hope to see this series for a long time. Read Full Review

Mar 07, 2013Though surely to be a delight for kids with its bright visuals, expressive personality-driven ponies, charming story of friendship and goodness, it doesn't have the additional layers needed to make it a great read for adults as well. It's fun, but a bit shallow, and ultimately (like the show) it's capable of more. More jokes <i>and</i> more layers. However, the book is just getting started and there's plenty of time for Cook and Price to find that sweet spot of just enough story to make sure that the visuals don't get lost in too much story. Just like the show, it was adorable. The writing was well done, as I think it encapsulated the characters really well. I loved the references made to movies that would never be put on the actual show. It was like watching an MLP episode tailored to our audience.

Everything before this issue was average. Here, it all falls apart, mainly because of how Queen Chrysalis was done. If she could already acquire enough magic from the Secretariat Comet to obliterate a whole town, what did she need Twilight's magic for? Chrissy could have instead used a changeling(s) as a wolf in sheep's clothing to ask around for info on the Secretariat Comet, confirming its legend as truth. And then she could have used the Comet's magic to blast an entire town; once it becomes vacant they could build a changeling colony and start conquering Equestria. But then some incompetent changeling goofs up, drawing attention and raising suspicion from the Mane Six, leading to their adventure; the CMC's get taken AS HOSTAGES to more
