A Spoon Too Short is Dirk Gently's most baffling and incomprehensible case. Inspired by the tantalizing alternative title for the Dirk adventure Douglas Adams was working on prior to his death, written by Arvind Ethan David and executive produced by Max Landis, A Spoon Too Short follows the continuing adventures of the world's weirdest detective.

The fact that this series even exists is a great sign that Adams timeless style of silliness hasnt lost its appeal, and the fact that IDW have actively sought out people who have proven that they know this style inside-and-out only adds to the joy of the matter. If it continues in this form, the seriesll be on my Best of 2016 list the moment it ends in June. Follow the nearest stranger until you pass a comics shop, and grab this immediately afterwards. Not having read the original Dirk Gently novels it is hard for me to say if the writer of this new series Arvind Ethan David has captured the essence of the lead man and for a first issue, the characters foibles and personality can get annoying even in 20 or so pages, his shtick getting tiresome quickly. It is far too early for me to be overly judgemental on this first issue of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency: A Spoon Too Short, especially with no experience with the character, as a plus though the artwork is of an exceptional quality that really suits the offbeat nature of the subject, I just hope that over the coming issues I begin to enjoy it more as the mystery of the missing voices itself is one that is lending to an interesting story.
