I honestly can't stress how much I'm enjoying this series. And while it's only technically going to have two issues published in this calendar year, it's already rocketing its way to the top of my “Best of 2023” list. Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees #2 takes a surprising turn as the story shifts from a serial killer's inner monologue-driven horror tale into a detective narrative. It works mainly because the mystery of who the killer is tantalizes with key clues dropped left and right. This issue deals with the fallout of the first issue, and how the town reacts. Things then proceed to get really messed up and crank the tension up to 11. Sam realizes stuff is going to explode from here and what is going on. I love a good murder mystery/crime drama, and add in the uniqueness of the setting and you have a run to read tale. Go Patrick! You are going a great job!

The second issue picks up where the shocking first issue left off, plunging readers deeper into the bizarre and darkly humorous world of Woodbrook. Writer and artist Patrick Horvath continues to weave a captivating story, this time with a focus on the unexpected consequences of secrets and the dangers of unchecked ambition. The twist of Sam, the serial killer main character, becoming a quasi-investigator was a fun twist that I didn’t see coming. Horvath's artwork is once again a highlight of the issue. His expressive character designs and detailed backgrounds bring the world of Woodbrook to life, capturing the creepy charm of the town and the sinister nature of its inhabitants. The use of color is particularly effective, with muted ton es creating a sense of unease and vibrant hues highlighting key moments of action and tension. more

The art is just really well crafted. The story is alright. It's good, and is written well, it's just not super unique. Still, it's an entertaining book.
