  With all of this in mind, I can say I had a blast reading this comic. It's found a way to make the story feel original and does a fantastic job with creating a story that will have people eager for more.   "Amber Blake" kicks off a new series that focuses on a strong woman and young adults in a world that needs them more than ever. Solid art and a decent script that is interesting, if not a bit rushed make for a fun read. Read Full Review

  Comic Crusaders - Johnny "The Machine" Hughes

  I like it when IDW take a break form their more obviously licensed products and show how they can deliver a range of different types of comics. Granted, this particular book, at least at the moment, doesn't add anything new to very populated story field. It will be interesting to see how this series distinguishes itself from others in the trope in later issues. Read Full Review

  A mess, but one with some promise. Amber Blake #1 feels a lot like a try out for what works, and what doesn't. Hopefully, Jade Lagardere has worked out exactly what sort of story he wants to tell, and sticks to it for the remainder of the run.   Amber Blake #1, unfortunately, is not a great first issue. It feels like the story tried to stuff way too much into the first issue and it was not paced well enough. Too much is thrown at the reader and nothing really sticks. The art, for the most part, was solid; the change in style toward the end does throw the tone of the issue off, though. Amber Blake #1 has your basic revenge plot thing that has been done a lot. It is not a bad thing, but if you are going to do something that is done to death, you are going to have to have an interesting character or something that set it apart story-wise.   I think I need to see more issues of this series for me to decide what I really think about it. On the face of it theres a lot of promise, but there are also a few moments that jar and take you out of the story.
