The collaboration on Interceptor is perfectly in sync. I can't remember the last time I read a first issue in which the writer and artist were working this tightly together and weren't the same person. Here's the thing, this book is for people who enjoy comics. Not superhero comics. Not big two only comic readers, but people who have grown up with the medium and figured out, "hey this shit is like tv, movies and video games all rolled into one." Cates and Burnett have given themselves a heap of ideas and contrivances to juggle and explore, but hopefully the getting everyone up to speed portion is set in stone and the focus can shift firmly on developing two irresistibly captivating female leads in a richly realized setting. An aggressive salvo of an opening issue that accomplishes everything a #1 is supposed to including a tantalizing premise, rich and engaging characters, effervescently mesmerizing visuals, and the promise of an absolute planet-wide frenzy of vampiric future sci-fi war. 'Interceptor' #1 is a fantastic addition to Heavy Metal's fledgling comic book division. It's already off to a promising start with much of the exposition and backstory out of the way the perilous mission on the vampire-controlled earth can begin. You can't go wrong with an interstellar vampire space adventure with two courageous girls as its leads. If we've learned anything from the movies over the last year is that women rule and that's just the cherry on top for 'Interceptor.' Read Full Review

It's a bonkers, irreverent story that puts its tongue firmly in its cheek and bites down to draw some blood. Cates obviously had some fun writing this and it's well worth a read with the amazing artwork by Burnett. I say bring on more. Read Full Review
