OverallHaving never read much Vampirella. The Dark Powers is very much my introduction to her. First off. I really like how she views herself as an outsider and can easily relate due to personally being among the 20% of people on this Earth who is Neurally Divergent from the rest of society. VAMPIRELLA: THE DARK POWERS #2, available from Dynamite Comics on January 27th, 2021, replaces the non-stop action from issue #1 with tons of character development and exposition. Despite the amount of talking, the issue never felt plodding or boring. The art was good overall, and it has me curious to find out what happens next. Read Full Review

This feels in the same vein as the Red Sonja : Superpowers title except more focused on xenophobia and prejudice. It's like Superman vs. KKK except with the supernatural being discriminated and the main character has sex appeal and an adult level of snark and sarcasm. And with a variant like the one they had with this months cosplayer Vanta Black, pardon me if I felt right at home.

I like the writing. Abnett is always reliable. However the artwork is patchy. I don't really understand how Vampi can be so covered up but is allowed to have her backside hanging out. And don't get me started on the cynical ploy on the cover with Vampi in her classic costume...
