Apr 10, 2010Ross and Krueger balance out the reflection and the philosophy with scenes displaying heroes beating the snot out of an unbelievably potent menace. I would say it's old school cool, but even these simply wonderful scenarios of violence bear twists. Whereas companies like DC go out of their way to treat their characters like they were blow-ups dolls for sadists, Krueger and Ross take contrary positions. They celebrate the super-heroes. They raise them above their meager beginnings. They present them as they have always been: the recapitulation of myth. Edgar Salazar and Ivan Nunes demonstrate the Superpowers' resonance with each rustle of leaves, each flash of scarlet vision, each challenge of boomerangs, each clawing of granite, each burst of earth and each blast of lightning--and gentle readers, there's a storm brewing.
