    Comics Bulletin - Shawn Hill

    Dec 07, 2009

Since this is the city of Shamballah in the land of Skartaris (where time doesn't pass as it does for the surface world: watches don't work and no one seems to age), Grell gets to indulge himself in drawing beautifully tattooed and bejeweled bodies in actions of both love and war. This issue is a kind of Kama Sutra of wistful memory and lustful entreaty, so free flowing that you almost glide by the resurrection of an old and horrific foe by the villainous Kate Archer. Or would if Grell hadn't cleverly made it the last page. This wily character is reborn to a hero's physique and you just know he's going to clad it in something devilish very, very soon. Grell has achieved that status shared by artists like Byrne, Perez, and the late Gene Colan--you try not to interrupt the master's flow, because you know it's going somewhere good. Read Full Review
