The Titans' becoming a unit has tremendous impact on its ability to defend, but also exemplifies what life with powers might be for its adversaries. This is a unique and unexpected angle to the story, and lends itself to ongoing intrigue. Mar 09, 2017I guess the thing to take away from all of this is that no matter how old you are, there isn't a maximum age anyone needs to be to read any given comic. You can't be "too old" for a comic. They can be good and entertaining and even help give some readers a cooldown from some of the heavier comics they've been devouring. The thing is, there is so much talent behind each and every comic that I think it's unfair to pass up on one simply because it's marketed more towards the younger audience. But that's just me. Feb 27, 2017Teen Titans #5 did exactly what it needed to do to establish a strong foundation for the series moving forward. Robin's character arc in this issue helped to highlight how the Teen Titans will be more of a family than just another response team like the Justice League are for the DC Universe. Batman's guest appearance helped drive that home and Percy was able to create a strong connection for the entire team that he can now build on in order to introduce new characters like Aqualad. He has set up a team of heroes who already seem like a quirky family with defined characters whose personalities, strengths and weaknesses draw us in and make us want to know more about each one and what will happen next. Took longer than expected, but we finally got the team assembled. Nice little story arc to give people a history of Damian Wayne, but I hope we see more character building and experiences from the rest of the team. PS. The art is great when Khoi Pham is paying attention to detail, but there are some pages it just seems like it was still a draft, very sloppy.

One (barely a) Spoiler ahead... TEEN TITANS #5: A solid issue that leaves me hopeful for the future of the franchise. Khoi Pham, in particular, made a great showing this issue. Where his first issue on the series looked and felt like a fill-in (probably because;it was...he came on after the hasty departure of Jonboy Meyers) Mr. Pham really made the book his own with this issue. The last few pages, starting with Batman's appearance were, particularly, gorgeous. SCORE: 8.7

Nothing really bad here, except Damian being Damian. Being stubborn. Then learning. Then growing. To no doubt act stubborn and stupid again the next time the plot demands it. The other Teen Titans haven't really done anything to distinguish themselves in this series either. Maybe if I had a background with these characters I would feel differently, but I just don't care enough about them to continue past this arc. Oh, and Ra's al Ghul is a punk here. That was bad.
