Overall, it's reassuring to see this series finally building some storyline momentum, as well as capturing some of the epic scale that the first two issues were sorely lacking. While some aspects of the story are a still little underdeveloped for the time being – Sheriff Fox's investigation into the whole Lazlo Wormwood situation in the Bayou, for instance – the main thrust is truly gripping, and as I mentioned before, the series still looks absolutely stunning courtesy of Jones' sublime visuals. As a Swamp Thing fan, I'd honestly be happy to have any book featuring my favourite character on the shelves every month, but with two creative juggernauts like Wein and Jones at the helm, I have the feeling that this mini-series is on the verge of turning into something truly special. This actually is a decent jumping on point, but skipping the first two issues is not advised. With only three issues left, I have absolutely no idea where the story is going and I find that to be a highly exciting prospect. Read Full Review

The Swamp Thing series with Len Wein back at the helm brings back all of those iconic images and gross feelings that make Swamp Thing fans rejoice. While Alecs story is always full of monsters and macabre, its always been one of the most human tales in the DC Universe, and its nice to have Wein back in that action. Read Full Review

In addition to being visually and atmospherically stunning, this title gives hope that there could be a place for similar books in DCs publishing line. Its certainly a throwback, but thats one of the reasons why its so good. Theres also a little bit of EC Comics horror in here as well, just like the two wonderful horror books Archie Comics is producing though not on a consistent publishing schedule. Theres no reason DC cant do the same. There are a number of characters that would fit easily into the milieu that Wein is building in Swamp Thing. Read Full Review

The overall story in this book could be summed up inone sentence, and there's really nothing wrong with it. But a lot of the dialogueseems lame and contrived, and irrespective of the characters saying it. Acharacter from the past is dredged out of limbo and crammed into this issue,raising my continuity alarm bells in my head that didn't wane until I reachedthe conclusion. I would love to know what someone new to Swamp Thing thinks of this, their opinion would likely be verydifferent. But I will never be that person, and I can only review a comic bookbased on my own experiences. Read Full Review

one thing i can really say about Len Wein's writing is he has an excellent rhythm to his character's dialog! -- they speak in a very natural manner that's easy to follow and grasp what they are saying! ...SO very rare in a DC comic these days!!! ... there were a few forced name drops of character's from the DC Universe that didn't serve any other purpose other than to probably meet some sort of quota from Editorial? ... that took me out of the story a bit -- and HENCE lowered my score a notch!! ... this was a mostly exposition filled issue leading up to bigger things. but, OH MAN!!!! what a reveal at the end!!!! ... how in the HECK are they going to recover from THIS??? ... my interest is VERY piqued to find out where this all goes?? and i find myself very excited for next moth's issue! ...Kelley Jone's art is as beautiful as ever! his ability to convey shapes and form with his use of solid blacks are some of the best in the business! ... this does feel like an in-between issue, but so far from what i've read i have faith that it will serve a greater whole! ... if you've not read Swamp Thing #1 & #2 yet, i highly recommend that you do!! ...this is one of the most fun comic series DC has given us in a LONG time!!! more

This book was really good. After the first issue, I was worried about what we were getting with Swamp Thing, especially after reading Suicide Squad’s Most Wanted, and that Poison Ivy mess, I wasn’t sure that this book was going to right the sinking ship, and was just going to sink deep down into the nothingness, never to be heard from again. But things turned around well in issue two, and have continued to fair well in issue three. The opening sequence with the Boa Constrictor was beautiful, and I loved the way the snake was coiled and contorted around Swampy’s body, and then the intervening of Matt Cable was a welcome addition tethering this story back to Swampy’s history. Then we get to see more of Lucius Fox’s niece (I assume s he is his niece, I don’t remember for certain) as the sheriff of Houma, Louisiana, and her skeptically dealing with the zombie character from the first two issues. Then we get some time with Matt, Swamp Thing and Zatanna, who’s face looks like it changes basically every page- maybe that’s just the candle and moon lit lighting for the scenes, but it definitely was something that I had to sort of plod through, because of how different she looked on each page. Beyond that, Swamp Thing looked amazing, the art was really solid on this book, and pretty mystical looking in the last half- plus the big twist at the end was one I did NOT see coming, but is something that we have gotten before from Swamp Thing, so it isn’t that unheard of that things like this would happen. But I am very interested to see where things go from here, and I hope that we continue to get the best possible Swamp Thing story we can, because it is what we deserve. more
