Swamp Thing #13 is an incredibly haunting start to what is shaping up to be an entertaining crossover event. This issue ends with a shocking cliffhanger and an intriguing promise that Swamp Thing will stand toe to toe with Rot-infected members of the Teen Titans. Excited yet? Like 'Animal Man' #13, my only complaint with 'Rotworld' is continuity. If 99% of the world's population was dead, why is this story no leaking into every other title in the DC universe? I'm going to take an early guess here and say that, despite the characters repeatedly stating that this isn't a dream, that it is still a trick of The Rot and that Alec and Buddy are trapped in a false world created by Arcane. Issue #13 also benefits from the return of Yanick Paquette. It's not often that we receive an issue fully penciled by Paquette, and the results are worth savoring. Paquette delivers more of his trademark horror-tinged imagery, bold, striking page layouts, and intricately detailed character designs. Now that zero month has concluded, Snyder can regain his footing and the story can find a comfortable pace. This issue ends with a cliffhanger and the promise of Swamp Thing fighting Rot-infected Teen Titans, which caused me to draw comparisons between "Blackest Night" and "Rotworld." This is truly the first chapter of "Rotworld," so I am certain Snyder and Paquette will distance themselves appropriately, providing an entertaining and haunting story along the way. As a first issue, Swamp Thing's Rotworld storyline is off to a good start, with some interesting (if symmetrical) plot points set up for the next few issues that should make things even more so later on. Both Alec and Abby's storylines begin well, and their respective cliffhangers have me already wonder what's going to happen next, and the return of Yanick Paquette to the title can only be a good thing.
